1939. Hollywood is abuzz. Legendary producer David O. Selznick has shut down production of his new epic, Gone with the Wind, a film adaptation of Margaret Mitchell's novel. The screenplay, you see, just doesn't work. So what's an all-powerful movie mogul to do? While fending off the film's stars, gossip columnists and his own father-in-law, Selznick sends a car for famed screenwriter Ben Hecht and pulls formidable director Victor Fleming from the set of The Wizard of Oz. Summoning both to his office, he locks the doors, closes the shades, and on a diet of bananas and peanuts, the three men, along with Selznick’s trusted secretary, labor over five days to fashion a screenplay that will become the blueprint for one of the most successful and beloved films of all time.
David O. Selznick (30-60) – The famed movie producer at the brink of his success. He has fired the screenwriter and director of Gone with the Wind, what would eventually become the biggest blockbuster of all time, and he is frantically trying to keep hold of the film and his sanity. An actor interested in Selznick should be energetic, charismatic, passionate, and have a boyish gleam in his eye. He will also be able to focus the show in its quieter, more dramatic moments. This is truly a demanding tour-de-force role.
Victor Fleming (30-60) – Fleming is pulled off of The Wizard of OZ to save Gone with the Wind. He is an established director, but he still has a lot to lose if the movie turns sour. The expectations of the film are high, and he certainly feels the pressure right from the beginning. An actor interested in Fleming should be able to handle the highly-physical requirements of the role and temper the sometimes pompous and put-upon attitude of Fleming to find the fun in the role and the passion he feels about directing a film.
Ben Hecht (30-60) – Hecht has been called in to “doctor” the existing script of Gone with the Wind, but there is a big problem; he is the “only person in America who hasn’t read it!” He only has five days to re-write the entire screenplay. An actor interested in Hecht should be able to work as the audience’s eyes and ears, as his experience with Fleming and Selznick acting out the script is his first encounter with the story of Gone with the Wind. He should also possess a dry sense of humor and ground the virtuosic personalities of Selznick and Fleming.
Miss Poppenghul (18+) – Selznick’s trusted and sturdy secretary. She is very capable of the daunting job ahead of her. Never can she appear anything but professional, even when chaos erupts. An actress interested in Poppenghul should be deft at creating a character from very little on the page. Great potential exists with this role, as she is the calm in this storm of testosterone and quite a character in and of herself.

In this interesting drama, two women meet and their lives become indelibly intertwined because of the request that one, the mother of a despot in Africa, makes of the other, a world-renowned eye surgeon. Blessing probes the nature of emotional responsibility as the women deal with the consequences of their actions in this provocative play. You may be thinking about May and Cora for months!
The play is driven by the building relationship of these two intriguing and strong-minded women.

May N'kame (45+) - The mother of an African dictator.
